Hublot
The art of fusion
In 1980 Hublot was the first house to combine a gold case with a rubber strap. From this break with convention grew a design language that makes materials the central subject.
The evolution of Hublot
In 1980 Carlo Crocco unveiled the first Hublot in Geneva: a porthole-shaped case, a gold bezel with twelve visible screws and a strap of natural rubber — a scandal at the time, an industry standard today.
In 2004 Jean-Claude Biver took charge and formulated the idea of the Art of Fusion: combining precious metal with carbon, ceramic, titanium or rubber in a single watch.
In 2005 came the Big Bang, translating the original porthole case into a multi-layered construction and bringing the brand international recognition. In 2008 came the strategy of partnerships with sport and art.
Hublot has belonged to the LVMH Group since 2008. In Nyon the house develops its own calibres such as the Unico and materials such as Magic Gold, King Gold and coloured sapphire cases.

What matters with Hublot
- 01
The secondary market is heavily concentrated on the Big Bang and its limited editions; standard references trade well below retail price.
- 02
Limited collaborations and sapphire-cased models form the upper segment and are traded almost exclusively with the full set.
- 03
Rubber straps age visibly. A fresh original strap and the spare straps are part of any proper valuation.
