Royal Oak Offshore
The Royal Oak, taken to the extreme
In 1993 the Offshore took the Royal Oak's idea and amplified it: a larger case, a visible gasket, rubber-clad pushers. Initially rejected, it became the defining watch of an entire generation.
The evolution of the Royal Oak Offshore
Emmanuel Gueit, then just 22 years old, designed the Offshore as a response to a younger clientele. The Ref. 25721 launched in 1993 at 42 millimetres — enormous by the standards of the day. Gérald Genta himself is said to have initially rejected the design.
Characteristic features include the visible rubber gasket between bezel and case, the Méga Tapisserie dial, and the rubber-sheathed pushers.
From the 2000s onward, a great number of limited editions and material experiments followed: ceramic, Forged Carbon, titanium, as well as collaborations with athletes and motorsport teams.
The generation launched in 2018 brought calibre 4404, with an integrated chronograph and flyback function, into the line.

Key reference numbers at a glance
What to look for when buying
- 01
Limited editions dominate this market. Print run, condition and completeness matter more here than on the classic Royal Oak.
- 02
Rubber components age. Check gaskets and pusher sheathing for hardening or cracking — replacement is possible but time-consuming.
- 03
Forged Carbon and ceramic cases can barely be refinished. Scratches here are permanent and correspondingly relevant to price.
- 04
Early references from the 1990s are gaining increasing collector status and are now valued on their own terms.
