The dive watch from Schaffhausen
IWC entered the world of dive watches in 1967 with the Aquatimer. It remains the house's most technically idiosyncratic line, particularly through its outer/inner rotating-bezel system.
The evolution of the Aquatimer
In 1967 the Aquatimer Ref. 812 AD appeared with an inner rotating ring and pressure resistance to 20 bar.
In 1982, in collaboration with Ferdinand A. Porsche, came the titanium Ocean 2000, pressure-resistant to 2,000 metres and built in a dedicated version for the German armed forces.
The Aquatimer name returned as its own collection in 1998, and from 2004 was joined by models such as the Split Minute Chronograph and the Deep Two with mechanical depth gauge.
In 2014 IWC introduced the SafeDive system: an outer bezel that moves the inner ring via a coupling — in one direction only, as diving standards require.
